Frequently asked questions
Does Wyoming have a state income tax?
No. Wyoming is one of the states that does not tax wage or salary income, so your paycheck only has federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare withheld — there's no state withholding line at all. That doesn't mean Wyoming is tax-free overall: the state raises revenue through other means such as sales tax or property tax, but none of that shows up on your pay stub.
What's the difference between gross pay and net pay?
Gross pay is your full salary or wages before anything is withheld. Net pay (take-home pay) is what actually lands in your bank account after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare are subtracted. The gap between the two is typically 20-35% of gross pay, depending on income level and filing status.
How are Social Security and Medicare tax calculated?
Social Security and Medicare together make up "FICA" tax. Social Security is withheld at 6.2% of gross pay up to an annual wage base cap ($184,500) — income above that isn't taxed for Social Security. Medicare is withheld at 1.45% with no cap, plus an extra 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax on income above $200,000 (single) or $250,000 (married filing jointly).
Why is this calculator free with no signup?
Because the math behind it is public — federal brackets, FICA rates, and Wyoming's tax rules are all published by the IRS and state tax authorities. This tool runs the calculation in your browser; nothing you enter is sent to a server, stored, or requires an account.
